Freaky illusions to scare the mind

Freaky illusions to scare the mind can be found in the most unexpected places. Places right out in the open, places that are highly respected. Places like the magicians in Vegas with their mind bending acts. Places like an Imax theater.

Yep, an Imax theater. As it happened the only thing to watch, when I was at the Daytona NASCAR museum, was in 3D. Cheesy looking glasses and everything. I thought, yeah, right, still looks like the 50’s to me. With that thought in mind I waited for the 3D section of the movie to start.

When they told us to put the glasses on I thought “big deal, I know I’m sitting right here so none of it’s going to bother me, I’m a realist and I know real from illusion” but I put my glasses on.

I may know real from illusion and it’s not freaky but evidently my subconscious mind is a total idiot. I was sitting there for a few seconds thinking the effect was way better than it used to be when all of a sudden, right out of the blue, a tire came flying right at my head.

Now what is any sensible man going to do when a tire’s flying at his head. He’s going to duck, just like I did. I was a bit irritated at myself for ducking but it happened a couple of more times before I got used to it.

Another one that got me really good was at a different Imax theater. Don’t remember if it was a helicopter or a fighter jet but it was flying about 20 feet of the ground on a plateau. When it went off the side of the plateau my heart went right to me feet like I just fell off the cliff.

The Imax was an unexpected place to run across freaky illusions to scare the mind.
