Where is my mind?
Where is my mind really? I know from research it’s in my brain but sometimes I lose it behind walls in my head. Somedays it kinda of reminds me of this. “Help, I am lost. I have gone to look for myself. If I should return before I get back please have me wait.”
I don’t know the first time I read that but I thought it was so cool I stood there and wrote it down. Some days it describes my mind perfectly and other days I have a very quiet mind. Lol, Xanax helps with the quiet.
Sometimes when I start wondering where is my mind I do go looing for it but not in the way you might think. The mind walls I have left are of my own creation. Wheen I go looking for my mind I don’t have a problem with it but if you’ve never done this fun little mind trick before you might have your head go places you’d rather not have it go.
It’s a lot easier to do this technique if you are a bit tired or relaxed. I do it sitting in my recliner with the back in the reclined position as that’s how I’m most comfortable. Do it where you are most comfortable. It’s also easier, or easier to choose the direction your mind goes if you have a quiet mind.
Sit in a chair with your elbow on the arm of chair and hand raised up so that your arm is straight up and down. Keep it relaxed yet with enough muscle control so you can keep it straight up and down.
Play some music you like or even have the TV on a channel you like but keep the sound down low so it doesn’t intrude on your thoughts. I usually put the TV on a smooth R & B station for myself. Forgot to mention, try to pick a quiet place or time when no one will bother you.
Now simply close your eyes and relax, yet keeping your arm straight up and down. You are trying to reach a point where you aren’t asleep but you aren’t really awake either. When you get to relaxed and start to fall asleep your arm will fall over and wake you up.
Try to remember the feeling of what you felt just before your arm fell over. That’s where you want to go and stay. It will take some practice but you will be able to do it over time. Meanwhile it’s something that’s fun to practice doing as you’ll see after you try it.
Let your mind run free and follow any happy or neutral thoughts you’d like but discard upsetting or angry thoughts. Follow them wherever they take you. After a bit you’ll notice that you can see these things in your mind.
After you get even better you can direct your mind where to go and what you want to do while you are there. Follow the thoughts of your mind now and then. Sometimes you’ll end up in surprising places.
